HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

Government Degree College, Jaggampeta was established in the Year 2008, as per G.O. Ms. No. 210 dated 8-9-2008 based on the representations of various People’s Representatives. It is located in Kakinada District and 40 Kilo meters away from the District Headquarters. People of Jaggampeta in and around are mostly depend on Agriculture and allied sectors. Government Degree College, Jaggampeta is affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, at the time of its establishment and gave permission to start four Conventional courses viz., B.A (History, Economics and political Science), B.Com. (General), and B.Sc. (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) & B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology and Chemistry) from the academic year 2008-09 onwards. Later, with the inception of Adi Kavi Nannaya University, Rajamahendravaram, the college was affiliated to Adi Kavi Nannaya University. Now, we are following CBCS Semester system as per the norms of the affiliating University.

As per National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020, single major system has been introduced w.e.f. AY 2023-24. Accordingly, the has been running five Major and six minor programmes viz., B.A. (Economics), B.Com. (CA), B.Sc. (Mathematics), B.Sc. (Chemistry), B.Sc. (Zoology), and B.A. (History), B.Com. (General), B.Sc. (Physics), B.Sc. (Computer Science), B.Sc. (Botany), B.Sc. (Chemistry) respectively.

The College was established to cater the needs of students in and around Jaggampeta.  Input to the College is from Government junior College, Jaggampeta, Vijaya Bharati Junior College Jaggampeta and Other Junior Colleges in surrounding places of Jaggampeta. Literacy is low in this and surrounding areas; as most of the students come under economically backward category and from other backward category and Schedule castes.

This is the Unique College selected as Model Degree College in the year 2013 by RUSA under Component 4 in the East Godavari District.

Surrounding and nearby villages to Jaggampeta are Narendrapatnam, Gollala Gunta, Govinda puram, Gurrappalem, Irripaka, Marripaka, J. Kothuru, Kandregula, Katravulapalli, Mallisala, Gokavaram etc… Students from these villages are taking their education in this college.
